This event is a part of the 2014 Africa Day celebrations and the 2014 Emerge Festival brought by Multicultural Arts Victoria, in partnership with with La Trobe University’s Centre for Dialogue.

Following last year’s inaugural Australia-Africa Dialogue lecture by former PM the Hon. Kevin Rudd, a symposium “Advancing the African-Australian Agenda” is being organised as part of the Africa Day 2014 celebrations. The symposium will focus on two core themes:

  • The multifaceted relations and interactions between Africa and Australia; and,
  • Challenges and prospects for African-Australian diaspora.

Topics likely to be discussed will emerge from the following sub-headings: settlement, integration and inclusion, the ‘African-Australians hybrid identity’, the feasibility of a ‘New Africa Renaissance’ model, resources use & development, peace and security for Africans, and the utilisation of African nationals in the diaspora.
