African community leaders from across South Australia attended a reception hosted by Hon Jay Weatherill, Premier of South Australia to celebrate Africa Day at Parliament House 4 June 2015.
Premier Weatherill told the gathering that the formation of the African Union more than half a century ago was a signal to the world that African countries are in control of their destinies.
The Premier also talked about the positive contributions being made by the African Australian community in South Australia.
The well attended event is celebrated every year on 25 May to commemorate the founding of the African Union in 1963 – a time of radical change in Africa, with many former African colonies gaining independence from their European rulers.
